Live-Cell Imaging - From Single Cells To Whole Organisms
(February 11-12, 2014, University of Ferrara at LTTA)

The course was held at the University of Ferrara, in collaboration with Olympus Europa srl, and has provided theoretical lessons on imaging in live cells and the theories of TIRF microscopy, followed by applicative training and practical sessions with the use of innovative platforms, Scan^R e Xcellence workstation, available at the Digital and Confocal Microscopy Service of LTTA.

Specialization Course in new technologies of molecular medicine discipline
(April 2-4, July 9-11, November 5-7, 2013, Padova)

During the course, which was organized by the University of Padova, Dr Ferracin gave a lecture on the methods used to quantify circulating microRNA.


Practical course on the management of cardiology from cell to patient: the experience of the Centre for prevention and care of cardiovascular diseases of the University of Ferrara
(September 11-13, 2014, Ferrara)

The practical course was organized by the Department of Cardiology of the Hospital University of Ferrara and was kept by Dr Paola Rizzo.


Guided visits at LTTA:

- during UniStem Day, educational day for research on staminal cells addressed to secondary school students (March 14, 2014).

Introduction to Molecular Medicine: theorical aspects and innovative technologies in Molecular Biology with applications in Diagnosis
(Novembre-December 2013, University Hospital of Ferrara)

Dr Ferracin kept some lessons dealing with basic notions in genomic and technologies currently available to study nucleic acids, focusing on microRNA and their applications.


Seminar on "Macs solution for flow cytometry"
(April 5, 2013, University of Ferrara at LTTA)

The course, which was organized by Miltenyi Biotec in collaboration with Dr Melloni, dealt the solutions offered by Macs technologies for flow cytometric analyses.

XVI Annual Meeting of the Italian Human Genetics Society
(September 26-27, 2013, Roma)

During the conference, which was organized by the Italian Human Genetics Society (SIGU), Dr Ferracin was invited to give a lecture on "Circulating microRNAs in the diagnosis of cancer and autoimmune diseases" in the session "Imprinting disorders and age-related complex pathologies: role of epigenetics".


36° National Conference of Italian Endocrinology Society
(June 5-8, 2013, Padova)

Dr Gentilin was invited to discuss a lecture on "mir-26a and cell cycle control in acth secreting pituitary adenom" and a symposium on mitotane action on pituitary function.

During the conference, organized by the Italian Society of Human Genetics in Sorrento, Dr. Ferracin gave a lecture on the use of arrays of microRNAs to identify tumors with unknown origin.


TIRF Microscopy Seminar

(28 March 2012, University of Ferrara)

The course was held at the University of Ferrara, in collaboration with the Venetian Institute of Molecular Medicine (V.I.M.M.) and Leica Microsystems, and has provided a lesson on theoretical basis and technological solutions of TIRF microscopy, including information on experimental applications, followed by practical sessions.

Conference on "The bioinformatic management of microarray data"

(2 December 2011, Bologna)

During the conference, which was organized by the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute in Bologna, Dr. Ferracin dealt with the evaluation of the profile of microRNAs through microarray, giving information on the experimental design and the technologies currently available, the applications in biomedicine, the prediction and target validation, concluding with a practice session for the discussion of experimental data.


Graduate School Projects

Relative to the Operative Program of the Region Emilia-Romagna, Objective ‘Regional competitiveness and occupation’ European Social Fund 2007-2013 ‘Interventions for the qualification of human resources in research and technological innovation Axis IV Human Capital’, the Consortium Spinner advertised a competition for Graduate School Projects in 2011.

Between the doctorate’s projects selected for a grant, the Laboratory LTTA-University of Ferrara is partner in the following projects:

  • thematic title "Nanodiagnostics in Oncology"
  • thematic title "Therapies with biological pharmaceuticals in onco-haematology"

Training for academic graduation in the University of Ferrara

Academic year 2010/2011

The Laboratory LTTA gives the hospitality to trainings for graduation at Faculty of Mathematics, Physician and Natural Sciences.

Bachelor’s degree Course in Informatics.

Research’s theme: study of the GAMES software to analyze biological data that have been acquired through new generation sequencers (as Illumina Genome Analyzer, ABI SOLiD, Ion Torrent, etc) and to analyze and annotate biological data derived from new generation technologies for the sequencing of genomes.
